JoyGrip: Simply Joyful Bicycle Handlebar Grips from Reclaimed Teak Wood
Sustainable
Made by wood artisans from aged, recycled (upcycled) teak wood formerly in houses, carts and furniture. The rubber inner core that attaches the grip to the handle bar is laminated from two layers of bike inner tubes. No plastic is used in either production, finished product or packaging.
Grippy and safe in all weather
Teak's unique properties make it the primary (and nowadays expensive) choice for luxury boat decks, especially for sailboats. Teak is grippy and safe in heat, sleet, rain, ice and snow, and has an incredible soft yet solid feel and touch. It's also completely resistant to mold, fungi, rot and insects and can last hundreds of years.
Simple
Easy to install using a rubber cartridge laminated and stitched from bicycle inner tubes. This core provides some torsion suspension and dampens vibration. Our grips can also be removed and re-used. Removal is somewhat harder to prevent theft.
Safe and comfortable lateral grip
The spindle (or cigar) shape of our wooden grips with strong tapering of about 5 millimeters to each side adjusts to the shape of your palms for extra lateral hold and comfort. This increased thickness and ergonomic shape is a point where wood is clearly superior over plastic, rubber, cork etc.
Cool
A unique, impressive, natural look. Also: Cool in summer, warm in winter.
NOT Hard
While technically teak is a slow-growing hardwood, our wooden grips with a rubber core (about 1.7 millimeters of rubber on on the handlebar) and a thick wooden outer layer without any screws or hard attachment to the handlebar effectively absorb and dampen vibration. Natural teak ##does not feel hard to touch##, it's silken smooth and you feel the inner, oil-rich structure of the wood.
Beautiful
Just plain, clean, environmentally friendly and sustainable wood. NO varnish, paint or oil on the outside. We only paint the insides with clear varnish to prevent moisture buildup. These grips can last decades, even centuries.
Natural
The grips are not varnished and not oiled. We just apply teak sealer on the grips top make them water resistant. Teak sealer is used on sailboat decks and maintains a beautiful appearance for many years.
Stylish
A different look that is naturally attractive and timeless.
5-year warranty
We give a five-year warranty for any ##damage arising from our construction and design of the grips##, i.e. choice of materials, installation products etc. Should grips become lose, show rot or excessive wear, moldiness or insect infestation, we will send you a new pair upon receipt of the old pair. We believe that old teak with a rubber core is the perfect material for ergonomical, stylish, long-lasting bicycle grips.
