JoyGrip Frequently Asked Questions
Is the JoyGrip sustainable and environmentally friendly?
The JoyGrip is produced from old, reclaimed teak formerly used in houses in Northern Thailand. Not a single tree is cut down to make our product. The JoyGrip will last for many decades, even centuries, as teak made from mature trees is virtually indestructable, aside from catastrophic events, such as fire. As all wood products, the JoyGrip is a carbon store, binding CO2 from the air for the long term.
Why is the price rather high?
While teak wood is not scarce on a global scale, reclaimed teak has greatly appreciated in price over the last years. It is much sought after for furniture and decorations in Thailand's and Asia's booming tourist accommodation industry. As felling of any teak trees is illegal in Thailand, the only timber available is reclaimed wood. Also, as the value of the wood, engineering and craftmanship is embodied in the JoyGrip, we don't intend to position it as a mass product. Each JoyGrip is crafted by hand and takes hours finish. This is not a mass product produced in large numbers.
What about durability?
The JoyGrip is made from old teak, a material more durable than most organic material, used for centuries as boat deck incessantly exposed to sunlight and salt water. We use a so-called "teak sealer", a non-toxic chemical to make the teak water resistant without diminishing its natural texture and grip, as a varnish would do. Teak sealers are used on boat decks to protect the teak from soaking up water and losing its natural oil, while maintaining the unique teak grip.
What is the return policy?
As the JoyGrip is a natural wood product, every JoyGrip pair is different. We try to match every pair as best as web can. This is usually not difficult, because each pair is from the same piece of wood. However, if you don't like the color or grain pattern of your particular pair, you can send your pair back, and we'll send you a new pair. Please note that you will have to bear the shipping cost for the return.
What are the shipping options?
We usually ship via the postal system, a very reliable service in Thailand. This shipping option is free of charge to worldwide. We can ship with DHL and other shipping companies upon request.
What are the international taxes, duties, etc. that I have to pay?
Import duties will have to be borne by the customer. For most countries, the value of the JoyGrip package will be below the taxable threshold.
When will I receive my order?
We will usually ship soon after we receive full payment. As we ship via the postal system, it can take a few weeks for your order to arrive.
What do I do if I never received my order?
In very rare cases, the package may be lost or stuck in the postal system. If you contact us via email we will track your order or send you another package.

Where are you located?
We are located in central Chiang Mai, in Northern Thailand.
How is the product made? Where do the materials come from?
The JoyGrip is made from reclaimed teak wood. The cartridge that goes on the handle bar is made from bicycle inner tubes, stitched with a cotton thread. JoyGrip products and packaging are 100% plastic-free.
How do I make sure I order the right size
The JoyGrip is available only in one size, a 38mm diameter at the widest point. This is a relatively thick bicycle grip which has the advantage of distributing weight and better damping than thinner grips.
